A couple with three children bought a 6,000 m² empty lot near the Trancoso beach (BA), intending to build their dream beach house from scratch. For this mission, architect David Bastos from the cast of CASACOR came into the picture.

"The clients requested a spacious house with integrated and cozy projects to welcome friends and gather the family, which prioritized the view of the sea, even though the lot is not facing it," he explains.

The house was designed in eight modules with different functions, organized and connected by wooden decks: main social area; home theater; kitchen with living and dining integrated; master suite; two common suites; staff quarters and laundry; garage.

"In addition to meeting the construction standards of the condominium, this modular arrangement with fewer walls provides more views and integration with the surrounding nature, facilitates the maintenance of each unit, and reduces the energy consumption of the property as a whole," explains the architect.

The modules were built with exposed tree trunk structures – present in the pillars, beams, and roof – wooden frames with glass and frames complemented externally with horizontal adjustable wooden brises that ensure more privacy and control of light and ventilation.

In the external area, the pergola coverings are protected by wooden tiles, with an internal thatch lining. The predominant floor covering is white cement, also replicated in the bathroom countertops.

Overall, the concept of the project was to create a harmonious integration between the built projects and the surrounding nature. "The main inspiration came from the lot itself, which guided the arrangement and configuration of the modules of the house. To promote a smooth transition between them, the interiors and the nature around, we relied on natural materials and tones," says architect David Bastos.

In the decoration, which follows the rustic-chic style, everything is new, both in the internal and external spaces. Durability and comfort guided the choices of the pieces, which follow a simple and minimalist aesthetic connected to the beach environment. Most of the furniture is made of rustic wood and the upholstery, curtains, and rugs have light and earthy tones to create an atmosphere of tranquility and coziness, essential for a beach house.

Furthermore, the inclusion of thrift store objects, such as ceramic pots and local handicrafts, adds authenticity and personality to the spaces, reflecting the culture and traditions of the region.

The project also highlights the infinity pool – which creates a continuous visual transition with the horizon and provides a sense of fluidity and expansiveness – and the structural glass box at its end, serving as a sauna.

"The greatest challenge of this project was overcoming the rugged topography, ensuring that the final form remained harmonious and proportional, even from the perspective of an observer at the lowest level of the land. These factors required a careful integration between the architectural structure and the natural landscape, maintaining aesthetics and proportion as central elements of the design," concludes architect David Bastos.
