Built from scratch for a young couple from Rio de Janeiro with two children, this elevated house was designed by architect
David Bastos, from the cast of
CASACOR, on a
1289 m² lot, at Algodões Beach (BA). “The clients requested a single-story house, with
rustic beach decor, a complete gourmet space to host friends, and bedrooms in different modules for possible future use as an inn,” says David.

With
335 m² of built area and 5.84 m of ceiling height at its highest point, the
house has a
structure of tree trunks (smooth eucalyptus wood), a ceiling lined with tauari wood slats, and a colonial-style ceramic tile roof. The facades are a combination of
wood-framed sliding floor-to-ceiling windows and transparent glass with articulated wooden muxarabi panels. The flooring is light gray microcement.

The house consists of five modules interconnected by cumaru wood deck walkways, protected by
pergolas, forming an L shape that encloses the organically shaped swimming pool. The first module concentrates the living area, with integrated living, dining, and gourmet spaces.

The second module includes the
kitchen, laundry area, two storage rooms, dishware storage, pantry, and staff quarters with two bathrooms. The third module houses the sauna and the lavatory. The other blocks are actually bungalows with two suites each, with a linen room and support pantry between them. The property also features an attached garage, a garage for quad bikes, and a bicycle storage room.

The overall design concept was based on the maximum integration of the five modules with each other and with the surrounding nature, and therefore, it relied on architectural solutions that eliminate visual boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces.
“Through architecture, we were able to create a sense of isolation from urban routine, turning the property into a refuge of well-being and relaxation, surrounded by nature”, assesses the architect.

In the rustic beach-style decor, where the aim was to maintain the essence of the village indoors,
the selection of furniture, lighting, and new ornaments prioritized creations from local artisans, made with natural materials and tones, especially wood, fiber, and clay. "Some items from the owners' collection that resonated with this proposal were also incorporated into the decor,” reveals David.

The color palette consists of neutral and natural tones, ranging from off-white to earthy and wooden shades, including the light gray of the floor and the white of the sofa covers and bedding. In the outdoor area, the architect highlights the organically shaped swimming pool and the hammock area with three hammocks for relaxation next to the pool.
