In this mountain house, the residents ski from their own door

Designed for a Brazilian family passionate about skiing, this house in Aspen (USA) underwent a complete transformation, led by the Patricia Martinez Arquitetura firm, part of the CASACOR São Paulo lineup. The property was reimagined to meet the wishes and lifestyle of its residents, who have outdoor activities as one of their greatest passions. Built in the 1990s, the 560 m² house, located on a hill, had already undergone other renovations before coming into the architect's hands, who reinvented it as a sophisticated mountain retreat. Accustomed to spending seasons in Aspen, the family used to rent vacation homes. During one of their last trips, while staying in a new area, they discovered the value of Snowmass – one of the four peaks of the ski complex. With direct access to the slopes, the property allows residents to ski from their own door. This experience led them to decide to acquire the property and invest in a complete renovation. The project involved a partnership with the American firm Menendez Architects, essential for adapting the work to local regulations. During the execution, Patricia Martinez closely monitored the process, making trips to Aspen every 40 days over the course of a year.

The residents' wish was for a comfortable, practical, and welcoming home, free from excess. To achieve this, the project prioritized clean projects, soft, and organic shapes, which conveyed a contemporary and inviting atmosphere. Large glass openings reveal the landscape of the surrounding hills, taking full advantage of the maximum limit allowed by the region's safety regulations. The residence features an entry hall, dining room, home office, guest suites, as well as main suites and a generous living room. In the interiors, the light palette in neutral tones – such as oak, brown, caramel, black, and off-white – was chosen to create a play of subtle depths. The variety of textures adds coziness and sophistication to the projects. Distant from the busy routine in Brazil, the house has transformed into a true refuge in the snow for the family, who now enjoy the pleasure of skiing and hosting friends in a home that reflects their lifestyle.
