In Alto Humaitá, this 810 m² house brings together the
Rio soul with the
contagious energy of Bahia. After being owned by a couple of Bahia actors, it was purchased by another couple from Salvador, who moved in with three small children. The challenge for the
Mauricio Nobrega Arquitetura office during the renovation was to create
spacious and integrated projects, making everyday life functional and welcoming for friends and family on lively weekends.
Although it had already undergone some renovations, the house needed adjustments to
open the spaces. On the first floor, the office was eliminated to make way for three spacious rooms - living room, dining room, and TV room - all open to the outside with sliding doors. The outdoor area was expanded with a
gourmet kitchen, changing room bathroom, and sauna, while the landscaping was revamped with tropical plants that create restful retreats. The decoration highlights pieces of national design, such as the
Taja chairs, by
Sérgio Rodrigues, and
lamps by Jader Almeida.
The basement, previously used as a rehearsal room, became a
guest room for the kids, which also serves as a family space for everyday life. In the intimate area, the
layout was redone to
include four spacious suites, modern bathrooms, and a large closet in the master suite, ensuring
comfort and
functionality for the entire family.
The biggest surprise of the renovation was the discovery of a
loft with a high ceiling. This space allowed for the creation of mezzanines in the three main suites, which serve as an office for the couple, a study and play area for the son, and a playroom for the girls, expanding the experience within the house.
"It was one of those unexpected surprises that happen during the renovation, but it turned out to be a
great gain for the project," reveals Mauricio Nobrega, highlighting how the renovation balanced practicality, conviviality, and comfort in a house that is a true home for the family.
