A 250 m² apartment becomes an integrated, cozy home with just the right amount of color

The businesswoman Luana Baldin had always dreamed of having a project by Deborah Roig, a professional on the CASACOR São Paulo roster. She tried to make the wish come true when she got married, but it wasn’t possible at that moment. Seven years later, the long-held dream finally came off the drawing board with the purchase—still off-plan—of this apartment of 250 m² in Alto de Pinheiros, São Paulo, where she now lives with her husband and their 10-year-old daughter.

Among the couple’s main requests were a walk-in climate-controlled wine cellar, a comfortable lounge in the living room and a kitchen open to the social area — since Luana likes to cook and entertain at home —, with the possibility of being closed off whenever necessary.

Right at the entrance, Deborah created a portal painted in a deep terracotta tone, a solution that gave rise to a foyer that didn’t exist in the original floor plan and also made it possible to build in the bar on one side of the door and, on the other, the wine cellar, installed in the space that previously housed the service bedroom.

Originally, the apartment had four en-suite bedrooms. With the renovation, it now has three, since one of them was integrated into the social area to enlarge the living room. “With the demolition of that suite, a column appeared in the living area, which we decided to take advantage of, wrapping it with curved, slatted, open millwork that visually connects to the TV console and panel,” Deborah reveals.

The decor is almost entirely new, with the exception of a few sentimental pieces that accompanied the couple from their previous home, such as a colorful painting — a wedding gift — and the iconic Mole armchair by Sergio Rodrigues, which has belonged to the husband for years, both now in a prominent position in the living area.

The project embraces a neutral color palette composed of light and mid earthy tones — ranging from off-white and ecru to brown — also present in the oak millwork. Against this backdrop, vibrant accents emerge, especially in terracotta, reflecting the client’s upbeat personality. “I often say this client has a colorful soul,” concludes Deborah Roig.
