The atmosphere of the countryside city, surrounded by greenery, of Praça Pio XI in Jardim Botânico (RJ) inspired the renovation project, signed by architect
Paula Neder – from the cast of
CASACOR Rio, for this
ground-floor apartment of
75 m².

Very cozy, the functionality of the property was paramount to
meet the needs of the resident's daughter, who has Angelman syndrome (a genetic condition that interferes with motor and cognitive development).
"The furniture was carefully selected for the project, with the Kilin armchair by
Sérgio Rodrigues being the clients' favorite. Since they greatly appreciate artworks, the selection includes engravings, canvases, and some paper works by
Beatriz Milhazes, which Andrea received as a gift from the artist herself," says Paula.
One of the three
bedrooms was transformed into a multifunctional room, capable of integrating with the rest of the apartment or functioning as a guest room. The custom cabinetry made of oak, with sliding doors, ensures flexibility, while the wider passages facilitate circulation.
The creation of a window between the kitchen and the dining room brought more natural light and a sense of integration between the projects. The choice of floors resembling hydraulic tiles and colorful cabinets added an even more inviting touch to the space.
"As a highlight, we have the cabinetry that separates the rooms with sliding doors and, at the same time, integrates. The colors we used in the kitchen and bathrooms bring this cheerful color to the project," explains the architect.
The
bathrooms have been rethought to maximize comfort. The old service bathroom and part of the former kitchen have given way to larger bathing areas.
The main challenge was the advance of the kitchen counter over the building's circulation. The removal of the old service room allowed expanding the area and creating a more fluid connection with the dining room. "Other upper apartments had already made this use of space, but since ours was on the ground floor, it had to be done in a way that did not obstruct external circulation. We broke the wall, made structural reinforcement, and gained 60 cm for a counter that was essential for the kitchen space," concludes the professional.
