"Clients requested wide and integrated spaces, a comfortable social area with an impressive wine cellar to host friends, and a gourmet area on the balcony, connected to the dining area," says architect
Natalia Lemos, from the team of
CASACOR Rio de Janeiro, responsible for the renovation of this
linear penthouse of 394 m² in Lagoa (RJ).

In a previous renovation that joined two neighboring
apartments to create this one, the intimate areas were separated, each on one side, with a
kitchen in the middle and a terrace at the back, unused. To improve this configuration and make the layout wider and more functional, the architect demolished the walls of the entire central area, swapped the kitchen's location with a suite, and built an area at the back to accommodate the
TV room, the office and the service area. "As it is a linear penthouse, we designed the outdoor area, composed of a pool, lounge, dining table, and gourmet space, fully connected to the social environments," says Natalia.

Overall, the
concept of the project started from a neutral, clear, and timeless base, with carpentry predominantly executed in natural oak and some points of white lacquer to add sophistication and warmth. In the social area, besides the wide and integrated spaces requested by clients, the architect created a large wooden “box” that mimics the apartment's entrance door and provides access to the kitchen and the lavatory. The same carpentry also "embraces" the generous climate-controlled wine cellar, which extends from floor to ceiling, executed with the same finish.

In the decoration, with a contemporary, timeless, and sophisticated style, the base of the color palette is neutral – ranging from off-white to raw –, and wood appears not only in the carpentry designed by the architect herself but also in some furniture. The flooring of the entire apartment was covered with the same porcelain tile to create a visual unity and enhance the feeling of spaciousness in the spaces.

"In addition to being neutral, the raw tone creates a layering of tones in the composition with the furniture and rugs we chose," says Natalia. "For the curtains in the
living room, we opted for a model that allows for great light control and still creates a beautiful play of shadows," she adds.

In the furniture, timeless pieces were prioritized, but that also brought a sense of warmth, such as the Mole armchair with stool, upholstered in natural brown leather, by
Sergio Rodrigues. Right next to it, it is also worth highlighting the painting by artist
Esther Bonder, painted in soft pastel tones. [gallery-abril id="191947" type="slider_super" showtitle="undefined" data-restrict="false"]
