In the past, fireplaces were synonymous with firewood, smoke, and very common in environments such as country houses or more rustic decorations, today the reality is different. The rise of the eco-friendly fireplace has transformed the way we think about residential heating, offering a practical, clean, and above all, elegant alternative for those seeking the coziness of fire without the inconveniences of traditional fireplaces. But after all, what is an eco-friendly fireplace? How does it work? What are its advantages and disadvantages? And most importantly: does it really heat? What is an eco-friendly fireplace?

The eco-friendly fireplace, also known as an ethanol fireplace, alcohol fireplace, or fluid fireplace, is a heating system that uses bioethanol (ethyl alcohol) as fuel.

Unlike wood or gas fireplaces, it does not require a chimney, exhaust duct, or complex installations. This is due to the fact that the combustion of bioethanol is clean, releasing only water vapor and a small amount of carbon dioxide, without producing smoke, soot, or ashes.

This characteristic makes it extremely versatile, being able to be installed in practically any environment, whether built into furniture, inserted into wall niches, or even as a standalone decorative object. Its simplicity of operation and the absence of waste qualify it as a modern option aligned with sustainability principles.

How does it work?

The functioning of the eco-friendly fireplace is quite simple and safe, which contributes to its popularity. Basically, it consists of a stainless steel burner, where the bioethanol is stored. When igniting the fuel with a lighter or specific igniter, the flame appears instantly and in a controlled manner.

The combustion of bioethanol generates heat and, as mentioned, does not produce smoke. The water vapor released even helps to slightly humidify the air, a benefit in dry weather.

The duration of the flame varies according to the capacity of the reservoir and the size of the burner opening, but generally, one filling can last from 2 to 6 hours. Many models have a lid or lever that allows the intensity of the flame to be adjusted and, consequently, the fuel consumption rate and heat release.

Types of eco-friendly fireplaces

The diversity of models is one of the great attractions of the eco-friendly fireplace, allowing it to adapt to different decoration styles and needs.

  1. Portable: These are models that can be moved freely around the environment, ideal for those seeking flexibility. They can be placed on the floor, on a coffee table, or in a strategic corner. Their installation is zero, just unpack and use.
  2. Built-in: Perfect for those looking for a more integrated and permanent solution. They can be built into gypsum niches, masonry, or woodwork, creating a clean and sophisticated look. The flame appears to "float" on the wall, giving a modern touch.
  3. Table: Compact versions ideal for decorating coffee tables, side tables, or even small outdoor areas. They act as an elegant focal point and add charm to any gathering.
  4. Fire Line (Burners): For more customized projects, it is possible to purchase just the burner and develop a custom project around it, using materials such as marble, granite, wood, or glass. This allows creating large fireplaces or innovative shapes.

Advantages of the eco-friendly fireplace

The popularity of the eco-friendly fireplace is not without reason. It offers a series of advantages that make it a smart choice for the contemporary home:

Sustainability

It uses bioethanol, a renewable and clean fuel that does not emit toxic pollutants or smoke. It is a more ecologically conscious option compared to wood.

Practicality and cleanliness

Without smoke, ashes, or soot, maintenance is minimal. Just refill the reservoir and occasionally clean the burner. There is no need to stock firewood, clean chimneys, or deal with waste.

Versatility

Since it does not require a chimney or ducts, it can be installed almost anywhere, including in apartments where traditional fireplaces are unfeasible.

Attractive design

Available in a wide range of designs, materials, and sizes, the eco-friendly fireplace easily integrates into different decoration styles, from rustic to minimalist. The beauty of the living flame adds a touch of sophistication and coziness.

Efficient heating

Although it is not designed to heat an entire environment like a central system, it generates enough heat to create a pleasant atmosphere and warm the surroundings, especially in smaller or medium-sized rooms. The heat is radiated directly, without losses through chimneys.

Safety

With proper use and the choice of certified models, eco-friendly fireplaces are safe. They have protection systems against leaks and overheating. It is essential to use only quality bioethanol and follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Space-saving

Built-in or tabletop versions take up little space, making them ideal for compact environments. CASACOR Publisher is an exclusive content creator, developed by the CASACOR Technology team from the knowledge base of casacor.com.br. This text was edited by Yeska Coelho.
