The Shishi-Iwa House, located in Karuizawa (Japan), combines the lightness of wood with a curved design that fits organically into the forest projects, conceptualized by Shigeru Ban – the Pritzker Prize-winning architect. The project was developed from the concept of social hospitality, something very different from typical hotel-resort experiences. The Shishi-Iwa is a retreat to induce reflection and restoration of vital energy and, in turn, a space designed to trigger new ways of thinking.

6. Alpina Dolomites Lodge & Spa

The architecture offices of Tage.Architect, led by Gerhard Tauber, and De Biasi & Comploi Architetti, founded by Marcello De Biasi and Karl Comploi, are responsible for the Alpina Dolomites Lodge & Spa. Located in the Dolomite Alps (Italy), the place features a contemporary design but respects the surrounding nature by using stone and wood in its structure, which harmonizes well with the mountain landscape. The project emphasizes clean lines and large panoramic windows that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.

7. Spa + Hotel La Romana

Located in La Romana (Spain), the Spa + Hotel La Romana was completed in 2012 by architect Isaac Peral Codina. By using natural and local materials, such as red marble, iron, and wood, the project reinterprets the vernacular architecture of the region. The rectangular structure of the spa with openings allows natural light to enter, just as the skylights in the ceiling provide zenithal lighting. The space guarantees a sensory experience of water and light, with relaxation areas that evoke the atmosphere of a hammam.
