In São Paulo, on October 7, 2023, the
Luciana Brito gallery opens the group exhibition "Silent Spring", curated by
Alexia Tala . The idea is to reflect on ecology and the future of the planet and mainly to highlight the diverse indigenous visions for new relationships with the environment.
The exhibition presents paintings, sculptures,
site-specific installations, photography and tapestries by a selection of artists from
Brazil, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Panama , and its program includes a
film screening cycle and an afternoon of conversations with guests to discuss issues related to ecology and artistic productions that respond to the theme. Alexia Tala, curator of the 22nd Paiz Art Biennial (Guatemala) and deputy curator of the 20th edition , spent eight years researching the Latin American universe of visual arts, discovering the narratives that construct not only its identity essence, but also
the social and cultural constructions of the native peoples , pointing out trends and
positioning artists and their poetics . Some of these artists make up the exhibition "
Silent Spring" , an audacious project by Luciana Brito Galeria, which has been in the planning stage since 2020.
The exhibition is part of a curatorial research focused on Latin America, with an emphasis on Central America,
bringing together artistic expressions rooted in cultures that present an intrinsic connection with the spaces to which they belong. The works that make up the exhibition are based on the
celebration of plurality , as well as a conscious relationship of listening and contemplation. It also aims to strengthen ways of seeing and living in the world that relate in a healthier and more sustainable way to the environment.
The title of the exhibition comes from a book of the same name published in 1962 by Rachel Carson , which deals with environmental pollution using a delicate and poetic allegory as a warning: the story predicts a future where birds will no longer sing. Silent Spring Exhibition:
