After more than three months on display, the
São Paulo Biennial comes to an end this weekend. With the theme "
Choreographies of the Impossible ", the Biennial – one of the most anticipated events by art enthusiasts across the country – closes its 35th edition this Sunday (10) with a special (and public!) program that includes performances, shows and even the dismantling of the work Outres, by Daniel Lie. In addition, of course, there is the exhibition of
1,100 works created by
121 participants from all over the world that were gathered at the
Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion , in Ibirapuera Park, in São Paulo. Check out our selection below and don't miss it!
1. Be amazed by the expography created by Vão
Expografia da 35 Bienal de São Paulo realizada pelo escritório de arquitetura Vão / (Cristina Bava/CASACOR)
For the first time in history,
the central span of the Bienal Pavilion has been completely closed – a mark left by Vão, an architecture firm that explores a new relationship between the exhibition space and the visitor experience. By creating a new flow of movement between works and people, Vão allows the public
to explore the already familiar space in a new way . According to the architects: “From the beginning, we sought a design that would be balanced between the desire not to re-enact the existing spatial choreography but, at the same time, not to impose another choreography, completely disconnected from its internal logic. To achieve this, we had to
dance with what was already there and what was available . In other words, in addition to the focus on
reusing the remaining materials from the old exhibitions, we aimed
to create spaces from the constructive elements that make up the Pavilion.”
2. Participate in the dismantling of the installation Others
(Levi Fanan / Fundação Bienal de São Paulo/CASACOR)
On Sunday, the exhibition-entity Outres, created by
Daniel Lie , will be dismantled amidst the Biennale's audience. This farewell takes into consideration the partnership of beings beyond human and the
importance of caring for their remains . Some of the elements that make up the installation will be reused in future works, while the organic elements will be sent to a compost bin to continue to perish.
3. Check the schedule of performances and shows
(Levi Fanan / Fundação Bienal de São Paulo/CASACOR)
The exclusive weekend activities include a
packed schedule of performances and shows . At Varanda Bienal, a show by Mari Merenda will liven up Saturday, while Sunday will be filled with performances by Pastoras do Rosário, Preta Ferreira and Mahmundi. There will also be performances by Will Rawls, Davi Pontes and Wallace Ferreira, Amador e Jr. Segurança Patrimonial Ltda., Ricardo Aleixo and Ventura Profana.
4. Expand your knowledge with guided tours
The Biennale's education team is holding a series of
guided tours during the last weekend of the exhibition. The tours consist of different routes, focusing on themes and interests identified based on research and training courses previously completed. To sign up, go to the Biennale's green floor and look for the Mediation Space. But be aware: spaces are limited to groups of up to 20 people. Check out the full schedule
