Located at Galeria Luis Maluf 's stand , the work " Torto Arado, 2024" was present at the 20th edition of SP-Arte with an even greater purpose than displaying the cover of Itamar Vieira Júnior's literary success. The decision to present the illustration from the book "Torto Arado" (2019) at the fair comes , in fact, from the desire to consecrate cultural and affective elements of the artistic research of the art's author, Aline Bispo . Interestingly, the illustration was not initially designed to compose the book that named it, reports Aline. Even before the artist came into contact with a copy of " Torto Arado" , she was already working on the art that would become the famous cover of Itamar's best-seller . The design was created in 2019, based on photography by the Italian Giovanni Marrozzini, taken in a farming region in Cameroon. (Giovanni Marrozzini/CASACOR)
In the same year, Itamar worked on the final repairs of Torto Arado. By coincidence, the writer sent this exact photograph of Marrozzini as a reference for the production of the cover of his work. The designer responsible for the author's book projects established a bridge with Aline, and thus the works of each one met. “It was a meeting that was not in our plan, and, coincidentally, there is a lot of talk about elements that are on the cover that are inside the book”, says the illustrator. 5 years after its creation, Torto Arado ended up at SP-Arte Aline had already participated in SP-Arte in the 18th edition, when she presented works on the theme Mancha e Gesto , also at Galeria Luis Maluf. However, it was only in 2024 that she chose to exhibit " Torto Arado" , one of her most famous illustrations. But this time, it wasn't so by chance: contact with Itamar's work was a factor that encouraged the illustrator to seek to connect more deeply with her ancestral culture. The following year, she continued traveling in the state, which resulted in artistic research into the works exhibited at SP-Arte. In addition to “Torto Arado”, Aline also brought “A Linha da o Ponto, A Linha da o Caminho” to the fair. “This emotional and cultural recovery, visiting parties, visiting places, meeting people, going to interiors, all of this makes me come back and say: I need to build this painting, record this in another way and bring it to SP-Arte. It’s another exercise, another record ”, says Aline. Furthermore, Aline reveals that the choice of works is also an invitation to an exhibition that will be held in August 2024 at Usina Luis Maluf. Reading the book by the cover The cover of “Torto Arado” had a warm response, to the point of even becoming tattoos on the bodies of fans of the book, as Aline says. The success of the partnership allowed it to continue to be present in other Itamar publications, “Doramar ou a Odisséia: Histórias” (2021) and “Salvar o Fogo” (2023).
This feeling of public identification with the book cover was something Aline thought of. The artist's choice not to delve into the features of the face, but still highlight raciality and bring representations that demonstrate the strength of the characters , was a way of evoking this feeling: “I like to think about this identification, I don't bring a physical characteristic on the face, but I want to allow people to see it and identify with it, or for people to create it too”, he says. Highlighting warm and vibrant colors, the designer left a trademark on the covers she illustrated. She explains that she used tones to bring back elements from the book: “ The colors bring out the intention of these works, of what I want to highlight in a book . Put For example, ‘Salve o Fogo’ intends to be something very hot, hence the orange.” Thus, it proves that choosing a book should not always be based on its cover.
