Art has never made such a difference in our lives as it has during the pandemic. Being close to what is beautiful and moving has definitely become a part of everyone's desires. And this is clear when walking through the spaces of this
CASACOR Rio , which features
works by artists from different styles and times , creating a visual arts itinerary that is worth an exclusive visit just to appreciate every detail. "Many studies conducted during the pandemic show that
one of people's aspirations is to live with art . Art saves, warms the heart, eases pain. And people have come to value living with beauty more. And that's a good thing. of course in this
CASACOR , which has art as one of its strong points", says
Patricia Quentel , managing partner of the Rio edition.
Ricardo Portilho - Jardim do Chafariz.
The first highlight appears in the
Jardim do Chafariz . The environment created by landscaper
Ricardo Portilho gained an enormous iron sculpture by artist
Raul Mourão : “The Flag 3” is 4x4 meters,
weighs 700 kilos and needed 15 men to be erected in the local. But what really impresses is the contrast between its simple and imposing lines and the eclectic architecture, full of baroque elements, of the Brando Barbosa Residence.
Celso Rayol e Fernando Costa - Entre-salas.
Entering the house, right in the first room –
Entre-salas , by
Celso Rayol and
Fernando Costa –, the scene is stolen by another sculpture, this one by the artist
Antonio Miranda , which refers to the primordial ancestor of creation. But the space also has two panels by the young
Luiz Eduardo Rayol and a sculpture by
A little further on is the
Sala DA Música .
Tiago Freire 's space pays homage to Brazilianness and exhibits pieces such as the clay heads of Irinéia; and a special tribute to
Nelson Leirner , an artist who would have turned 90 in 2022. The work is his
Library , which takes up almost an entire wall of the room. Exhibited for the first time in an exhibition, the piece actually portrays Leirner's personal bookshelf, a self-confessed hoarder who kept a little of everything in the piece of furniture.
Right next door is
Expo . The space was designed by sisters
Cristiana and Mariana Mascarenhas as an informal space for exhibitions and exchanges between artists. But what they actually created was a true gallery with one of the most interesting and daring combinations of the event. A poster with phrases by
Rubens Gerchaman climbs the walls in the creation of graffiti artist
Ozi , who used the Pix font by
Bruno Corrente ; two portals seem to reference the house's original tiles but, when looked at closely, reveal mosaics created by thousands of Playmobil in the work of
Heberth Sobral ; and there are also ceramics by
Geléia , from Rocinha; photos by
Alex Ferro ; works by
Lidia Lisboa and
Mulambö ; creations by Mariana Mascarenhas herself; in addition to the portrait of Gabriella Besanzoni (for whom the mansion of the neighboring Parque Lage was built), painted by
Daniel Lannes .
"We made a correlation with
Parque Lage , which is a house that was very important in the cultural life of Brazil and Rio and, from the 1970s onwards, it became an
art school that was fundamental to our history , where practically everyone studied. Brazilian visual artists of the last generations", says Mariana.
Paula Neder e Coletivo PN+ - Espaço Prosa. (André Nazareth/CASACOR)
While you're there, take advantage and climb the beautiful jacaranda stairs (practically a sculpture) to the second floor. You'll soon come across the mural painted by
Coletivo Muda and the bamboo curtain by artisan
Mônica Carvalho , which are among the highlights from
Espaço Prosa , by
Paula Neder and
Coletivo PN+ .
Almost right next door, the literary art of
Carlos Drummond de Andrade sets the tone. In the
Drummond Room , which
Lucilla Pessoa de Queiroz and
Renata Caiafa created in homage to the poet, his literature is not only in books, but also painted on the walls. and embroidered on the sheets. In this case, the chosen phrases are from his erotic work left by him to be published only after his death.
Two spaces were curated by
Heloísa Amaral Peixoto and deserve a closer look. Such as
Pavilion 22 , by
Mario Costa Santos , which pays homage to the centennial Modern Art Week, and the
Tempo da Alma space, by
Cristina Bezamat .
At this point, you might need to catch your breath. How about a drink by the pool? The space, created by
Gisele Taranto and curated by
Vanda Klabin , is practically an open-air gallery with works such as the pool installation by
Maritza Caneca , holograms, and the
Olhar 2022 exhibition, which features a painting by
Carlos Vergara inside the
BamˈBo͞o Bar , as well as works by artists from the outskirts displayed on totems with QR Codes amidst the bamboo grove. To actually see the works, you need to use technology
augmented reality via cell phone. The space also offers a third experience, this time in the Metaverse, where a virtual gallery features works of generative art. To visit it, you must ask the space's receptionists for virtual reality glasses.
CASACOR Rio will be open until June 26th and will feature
43 teams of professionals , including architects, interior designers and landscapers. There are
45 spaces set up at the Brando Barbosa Residence. In addition to the in-person exhibition, you can also visit its digital version , with
