"It's a piece about Van Gogh's memory. Not exactly in proportion to his ear, but it resembles it," explained Danish artist Michael Elmgreen. The Scandinavians' work criticizes the income disparity between the middle and upper classes, who have swimming pools the size of simple houses. "One can dream of lazy days in the sun, while surrounded by all the traffic and business going on in Rockefeller Plaza," the artists conclude. The vertical pool is located in Rockefeller Center in New York City and will be available for visiting (but not swimming) from April 13 to June 3, in celebration of the birthday of painter Vincent Van Gogh.
