The first comprehensive retrospective of
Yayoi Kusama 's work over the past eight decades is being presented at the
Gropius Bau in Berlin, Germany. The 3,000 m² exhibition titled "
A Bouquet of Love I Saw in the Universe " revisits eight of Kusama's early exhibition projects in Germany and Europe during the 1960s and part of his solo work in the US and Asia in the 1950s and 1980s.
Right at the entrance, an
11-meter-high installation with 16 dotted pink tentacles invites visitors to explore its mesmerizing creations. The exhibition offers an overview of the creative eras that marked her work, while also engaging the visitor in
numerous immersive activities , such as an infinity mirror room or a space with floating and colorful balls of light so characteristic of the artist's work.
On the two floors of the exhibition, visitors can interact with paintings, sculptures, installations, videos, large-scale images and rooms of mirrored boxes. In this way, visitors have the opportunity to
explore the pioneering nature of his work , including archival material and the films she has produced over the past eighty years.
Yayoi Kusama is one of the most important contemporary artists in the world, her
trademark being dotted patterns – or polka dots . Largely influenced by her anxiety and vivid episodes of hallucinations, which appeared in the form of spots, nets and
flashes of light, Many of his works became a
