Rio de Janeiro's main art fair, ArtRio , which closed its 12th edition this Sunday, the 18th, featured more than 50 exhibiting galleries that occupied around 3,000 m² of the Esplanada da Marina da Glória , in the center of the capital of Rio de Janeiro. So, below, we’ve separated out some interesting things we saw at ArtRio 2022 that you can’t miss. Check it out!

Station Gallery

Galeria Estaçāo brought to ArtRio 2022 works that dialogue with the non-erudite creation of the 60s and 70s. Based on this project, the gallery brings together a historical and current panorama of a production that went beyond the limits of popular art.

Brendon Reis

With a special participation in CASACOR Rio 2022 , visual artist Brendon Reis exhibited at the 12th edition of ArtRio “The Discoverer of the Seven Seas” , his art made using acrylic paint , pastel chalk, metallic paste and gold on canvas.

Anita Schwartz Gallery

"The pool is treated as a pictorial surface and the incessant mutabilities of nature are present there, materialized in the web of reflections in circular shapes, true aesthetic objects, an irradiation of the visible, almost like pictorial signs", wrote curator Vanda Klabin about the installation carried out at the exhibition.

Elian Almeida

Artist Elian Almeida presented his solo project for ArtRio 2022: “What is not recorded, time takes away”. The set of works presented is an offshoot of the artist’s interest in repairing the erasure of Afro-Brazilian figures in the country’s history. In particular, these works are the result of intense research carried out by the artist in Recôncavo Baiano.

Carbon Gallery

Artist Juan Fontanive presents the artwork “Black-Throated Mango” . Using the language of flipbooks and animating them with a motor, the artist brings his drawings to life by giving them movement by making them rotate on different pages, with images in different positions.

Simões de Assis Gallery

The Simões de Assis Gallery presents the work of Ascânio MMM , one of the leading artists in the trajectory of geometric abstraction in Latin America. His sculptures are constructed based on the principles of mathematics , specifically on the possibilities of geometric configurations.

Gaby Indio Contemporary Art

In gouache on paper, artist Leonardo Videla exhibits his “Projeto Acervo” (Collection Project) at ArtRio 2022. At the beginning of his career, he researched floor plans to discuss architecture and space. The floor plan suggested housing as a product, bringing a critique of the city’s architecture in recent decades, architecture that is not at all humanistic.
