CASACOR São Paulo 2024 arrived to the public entirely filled with art . In the spaces of the largest architecture and design exhibition in the Americas, the artistic spirit is present in different ways — and murals are one of them. In addition to putting visitors in touch with national art, the murals of the 37th edition of CASACOR São Paulo reflect the national theme of the exhibitions in 2024: " From the present, the now ". By provoking reflections on ancestry and seeking to understand how the world lives in the present and sees the future, the theme lives in full agreement with the painting developed by artist Heloisa Guedes, owner of Atelier HLuz, for the Raízes project, by Monik Arquitetura e Interiores.

The quote "The future is ancestral" by indigenous philosopher and writer Ailton Krenak was the inspiration for the mural in one of the bathrooms at the exhibition. The artist says she delved into the ancestral knowledge of several indigenous peoples and created art that brings visitors closer to nature.

"I see flowers, trees, birds... Everything pulses in harmony. Movement, balance, presence. I mix colors and find new tones. I draw whatever comes to mind. I invent shapes. This is the proposal of the panel. To share the feeling of such a connection. To bring the essence to presence", explains Heloisa. The prominence of Brazilian vegetation in CASACOR's murals doesn't stop there. Graffiti artist Speto created for the space O sertão é dentro da Gente , signed by Aline Borges, an art based on Grande Sertão Veredas , a literary classic by João Guimarães Rosa.

The mural, painted by Speto on a mud wall, highlights Diadorim, the most emblematic character in Guimarães' work. Like the book, the art that makes up the mural was arranged without a narrative order and emphasizes the dualities of the protagonist. Aline Borges Arquitetura - O Sertão é Dentro da Gente. In the two gigantic murals painted by artists Derlon (left) and Joana Lira (right) for the exhibition Ecos Armoriais , curated by Pedro Ariel Santana and Rodrigo Ambrósio, the backlands and literature are still present. The installation was inspired by the Armorial Movement , which emerged in the 1970s in Recife, with the aim of promoting the popular culture of the backlands.

The desire to create erudite art rooted in Brazilian roots is what guides this artistic initiative, inaugurated by playwright Ariano Suassuna, and guides the installation's murals. By combining ancestral elements of Northeastern culture with contemporary language, the mural constructs a current panorama of the Northeast.

"Portraying the power of femininity is what has been driving my work lately. When creating this mural, that was no different," says Joana.
Moving forward in Brazilian historical memory, the Talavera Brand mural, which fills David Bastos' Living Room, brings five Orixás into its history, says the creator of the work, Fefe Talavera. While yellow represents the love and fertility of Oxum, red is the justice, courage and strength of Obá and the dark turquoise green symbolizes Oxumaré — together with the drawing of the serpent, which brings movement and transmutation to the work. Finally, in the illustrations of winds and storms, it is possible to observe the presence of Iansã.

According to the artist, the Orixás are arranged in harmony in the mural, forming a council. Balance and renewal are present in every detail, says the author. "In art, life is reflected in trajectory, ancestral wisdom, eternal memory," she says.

Ancestry was also the guiding theme behind the work Origin , a mural created by Lucia Moretzsohn for the Minimal Design space, a project by the LP+A office. To create a sense of ancestral belonging, the artist created an aura of welcome, illustrated shapes that convey the idea of femininity and vigor, and opted for warm colors linked to the earth.

This fusion of colors, shapes and sensations is what gave the mural its name, Origin . "Origin is what defines our essence. Our essence is what we carry throughout our lives, despite the inevitable changes. For me, transfiguring essences is what gives meaning to art," says visual artist Lucia Moretzsohn.
