Just when we thought there was nothing left to learn about
Van Gogh 's legacy, researchers have come up with some optimistic news: a
bookmark containing some of the artist's earliest drawings , which was kept in one of his books. The novelty was discovered now in 2021 , and scholars believe it was hidden for 135 years.
The
bookmark was found in the book Histoire d'un Paysan , a peasant novel about the French Revolution, and illustrated by Emile Erckmann and Alexandre Chatrian. Van Gogh sent the book to the artist Anthon van Rappard in 1883 , with a note which said: "I think you will find the Erckmann-Chatriano beautiful." The book was kept for all these years and sold in 2019 to the
Van Gogh Museum , which exhibits this and other works by the artist in Amsterdam. Source: Colossal
