After a long renovation that lasted five years, the
Museum of Modern Art of Bahia (MAM-BA) reopens its doors to visitors. The inactivity was added to all the effects of the pandemic and administrative changes, after almost a year without direction. With the renovation, the Solar do Unhão houses and the museum, a project created by
Lina Bo Bardi in 1959, gained a new pier, a mooring for small and medium-sized boats, a technical reserve and a restaurant. Most of the renovation was designed by architect
André Vainer . The pier and restaurant were designed by Bahian architect
Adriano Mascarenhas .
Pola Ribeiro , who took over the management of
MAM-BA at the beginning of the year, reinforces the
interest in reconnecting with Recôncavo Baiano . “We are within the waters of Todos os Santos Bay and now we are going to resume this mobility route, being able to receive boats ”, he says. The museum will now be part of Salvador’s nautical circuit.
Daniel Rangel , the new curator, points out the desire to link MAM-BA to Lina Bo Bardi, who sought to create an innovative institution, with a school and workshops where popular and academic knowledge go hand in hand. The first exhibition after the reopening, entitled " The Dona Lina Museum ", will present a fusion of the MAM-BA collection with that of the Popular Art of the Directorate of Museums, formed by the perspective of Bo Bardi. "I will create the dialogue that she proposed: the relationship between Recôncavo and the backlands with modern and contemporary art , bringing one of the aspects of Bahian modernism”. There will be around 300 works , including paintings, sculptures, objects and utensils. The film "Barravento", by Glauber Rocha, will also be shown. Source: Folha de S. Paulo
