Many stories have been told through the spaces of the MAC (Niterói Museum of Contemporary Art) over its 25 years of existence, and now it is possible to see some works for free in celebration of the place's anniversary. There are seven completely free exhibitions open to the public that can be viewed in full within the museum (internal galleries, ramp and square), but also online and on Boa Viagem beach. The organization's message is that the museum is more modern and connected , without physical barriers to connect people and with art spread throughout the city. MAC 25 anos Last Tuesday (7), during the opening, the first MAC Niterói Museological Plan was launched: an action plan for the next five years designed for the equipment's actions. The event took place at the museum following the health protocols determined by of the new coronavirus pandemic. “These two monuments, the MAC and Christ the Redeemer, bring two great challenges: Christ, which is 90 years old, was built in the early days of reinforced concrete. This is a challenge that was very well expressed by Oskar Metsavaht in his exhibition. The same challenge was made by another Oscar, Niemeyer , when building this museum that completed 25 years. Throughout this period, we have had memorable events and special exhibitions here”, says the mayor of Niterói, Axel Grael. museu de arte contemporanea In fact, it was not only in the memory of the mayor of Niterói that Christ was shown to be alive. MAC entered into a partnership with Christ the Redeemer to create a set of exhibitions in the main hall, balcony and mezzanine, which feature the "90 | 25 installation" , which celebrates the 90 years of Christ and the 25 years of the Museum . “I am certain that we will create a beautiful channel for tourist flows from Christ the Redeemer to Niterói. We will have a meeting of art, culture and faith in this beautiful facility,” emphasizes the rector of the Christ the Redeemer Sanctuary, Father Omar. Below, check out some of the main exhibitions that are available for free to visit at the MAC:

Icons and Archetypes

Signed by Oskar Metsavaht, the exhibition brings to the main hall of the MAC a set of works, with photographs, paintings and videos that highlight the link between the two monuments, symbols of the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Niterói. “I had the pleasure of being able to immerse myself in the gaze of both, in the sensitivity to draw their lines, curves and straight lines. And, with that, share with the viewer my eye for the details that make this work by Niemeyer one of the symbols of modernist architecture. Brazilian, next to the statue of Christ the Redeemer”, says Oskar Metsavaht.

"Symbolism of Landscape" and "The Materialization of the Invisible"

Bringing together works from the MAC and Sattamini Collections, the MAC balcony was the perfect place to host the exhibition Symbology of the Landscape , which dialogue very well and reinforce the concept brought by Oskar Metsvaht. On the balcony, The Materialization of the Invisible surprises with works from the " Collections", with works by Lygia Clark, Tunga, Beatriz Milhazes and Ricardo Ventura. Both were curated by Marcus de Lontra Costa.
