Japan House São Paulo presents the
Sports Lounge: Tokyo 2020 between July 20 and September 12. With a series of activities and content about the
Olympic and Paralympic Games , which begin on July 23 in Tokyo, Japan, the lounge brings surprising elements, sports news and information about the organization of competitions, including new modalities.
Visitors are greeted by the
Olympic and Paralympic mascots .
Miraitowa , representing the Olympic athletes, is named after the Japanese words
Mirai and
Towa , which mean future and eternity.
Someity is the result of the abbreviated fusion of
Someiyoshino , a word that alludes to to those who possess incredible mental power and physical strength, and
so mighty , to represent athletes who overcome obstacles and redefine the limits of what is possible.
Another highlight is the
Japanese pioneering spirit at the 1964 Tokyo Games , in the development of symbols and the adoption of design as a communication tool. To showcase this innovation, the lounge displays a video about the
more than 50 symbols that represent each sport , displayed in a playful way so that the public can interact with each of them.
The sports lounge also highlights the main new features of the event, such as the
debuts of surfing and skateboarding , in addition to the sports indicated by the host country, such as
karate , which will be part of the Games exclusively in this edition; in addition to the return of baseball and softball, account of the immense popularity of the sport in Japan.
There is also an area dedicated to
Paralympic sports , with an exhibition of equipment used by athletes to practice sports such as goalball and bocce, exclusive to the Paralympic Games, as well as rugby, basketball and tennis, played in wheelchairs.
The institution also promotes the “Creators” project, which explores a wealth of possibilities around themes such as technology, creativity, architecture, science, sports, among others, coming directly from Japan. The project will be led by experts in these areas, such as
Kengo Kuma , architect responsible for the Japan House São Paulo project and also for the Tokyo 2020 National Olympic Stadium;
Kota Iguchi , Japanese motion designer and one of those responsible for creating the animated movements of the pictograms; as well as teachers, researchers, athletes in the field of science, among others.
