[galeria-abril id='26851' type='slider'] Curator and entrepreneur Sergio Campos, owner of Artemobilia, delves into the universe of Italian designer Giuseppe Scapinelli with the launch of a book and exhibition. The book, Giuseppe Scapinelli 1950: The Designer of Emotion, presents a comprehensive overview of the work of this architect, designer and multi-artist. which is revered as the mark of an era and which influences new generations of designers. There will also be an exhibition, curated by the author, which will bring together around 30 rare and representative pieces by Scapinelli. Read a brief interview with the curator below Sergio Campos. 1. How did the idea for the book come about? The idea came about when I was preparing the catalogue for the exhibition Os Modernos Brasileiros, at the Museu Oscar Niemeyer, in 2009, of which I was one of the curators. I noticed that although he was recognized as the author of some of the masterpieces of modern furniture design Brazilian, his life and work were shrouded in legend and little was known about the true extent of his work. The idea of the book would be both an unprecedented tribute and also a light on his personal and professional history. 2. How did your passion for Scapinelli come about?
3. What is it like to be at the same time: an entrepreneur, an author, a curator, a researcher and a critic? It is difficult, but at the same time an exciting challenge. The fact that I have an academic background (I have a degree in Sociology and Political Science from the Faculty of Philosophy and Human Sciences at USP) has in a certain way shaped my taste for research and investigation. Working as a gallery owner is also important because it brings a different perspective, the perspective of someone who buys, restores and preserves the collection or sells. It is the perspective of someone who has to know the art and design market, its trends and demands. I feel happy in looking at an armchair by a certain designer and describing it conceptually but at the same time knowing why he used that type of wooden fitting that makes it so resistant, or that stitched seam in the finish, which makes it so beautiful, etc. 4. What makes Scapinelli's work unique? What are the most emblematic pieces? The extreme attention to detail, as Tenreiro did, the formal elegance of his creations in perfect harmony with bold lines, with strong touches of sensuality and futurism, forming a delicious and unusual blend, make his pieces a separate chapter in modern furniture design. in Brazil.
