The American magazine
Time has released its annual list of the
100 best photos of the year – among them, a photograph of the
COP30 in Belém (PA). The shot was captured by Brazilian
Anderson Coelho, an independent photojournalist and a doctoral student in Journalism at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). In the image,
security forces repress indigenous protesters and activists who tried to cross the Blue Zone during the United Nations Climate Change Conference. The episode took place on
November 11. This was just one of the indigenous protests that marked the COP30. On several occasions, the
indigenous peoples expressed themselves during the conference. Their main demands included the
demarcation of lands,
protection of natural resources, and
greater prominence in climate discussions. It is worth mentioning that the COP30 had
900 accredited indigenous people, three times the number from last year in Azerbaijan. However, those who were not registered did not have access to the Blue Zone –
which would have generated the conflict recorded by Anderson Coelho. Additionally to the COP30 photograph, Time's list included records ranging from
wars to red carpets. One of the images that stands out is that of Palestinian prisoners after being released by Israel. A Palestinian boy reading among the ruins of a house after a bombing also makes the TOP 100. Buddhist monks are moved as they observe what is left after the earthquake in Myanmar. Similarly, a woman is seen surrounded by water due to the passage of Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica. In contrast, impressive poses of athletes and meetings between celebrities that marked 2025 help to bring a
light atmosphere of relaxation to the compilation. The complete list of the 100 best photos of 2025, according to Time, can be checked
