Photographer and geographer
Marcio Cabral is the first Brazilian to win the VR/360 category of the 14th edition of the
Epson International Pano Awards , an international photography competition supported by the company. The inspiration for this year's winning photo was the film
Avatar , released in 2009 by director James Cameron, which features bioluminescent plants.
To create the image, Marcio planned a way for the Milky Way arch to be aligned with Morro do Buracão, in Chapada dos Veadeiros (GO) and artificially illuminated the flowers so that they matched the stars. The work was named
Pandora .
Specializing in landscapes, Marcio is the most awarded Brazilian photographer in international competitions, having won over 150 awards throughout his career. He was also a postgraduate professor of Nature Photography at the University of Photography (UPIS) in Brasília/DF. As a prize, he took home a sum of dollars and the Epson PowerLite 1795F portable projector, which can be used to view photos in high brightness and resolution. Check out other selected images on the
