Shopping Morumbi is getting an experimental crafts and design space, the first in Brazil. Galeazzo Design developed the Espaço Colletivo + Casa Manual , a 1,800 m² living area that explores elements of Brazilian culture with playful architecture. For designer Fabio Galeazzo, the project's creator, experience environments are the future of architecture and design. Galeazzo has a master's degree in Creativity and Innovation from Fernando Pessoa University in Portugal and is the creative director of the Galeazzo Design studio, which has been working for the past four years years has dedicated himself to research on the person/environment interface.
The project was guided by the challenge of bringing the manual market, with its tradition of street culture and appreciation of contemporary artisanal products, into Morumbi Shopping. To connect these two modalities, designer Fabio Galeazzo, architect André Nuccie and surface designer Dani Gautio, office partners, researched elements that would bring points of connection between these two cultures – apparently distant –, creating a space where the Manual team could propose new experiences, coexistence and exchange of knowledge guided by the culture of 'done by hand'.
“Our idea was to create a cultural project that deals with communication between the head and the hands, intertwined and aligned by emotions. In other words, the heart orchestrating a creative rhythm between thinking and doing, a spiral movement that arises from of an individual pulse of each one, present in man since his origin”, emphasizes Fabio. Inspiration While researching primitive movements, Galeazzo came across an aerial image of a Brazilian indigenous dance in a spiral movement. Inspired by this concept, he created a large display built of plywood and supported by more than 700 bamboo plants, crowned by 10 gigantic petals superimposed on each other, which represent a dream catcher. The place floats in the middle of the spaces, inviting each person to create their own story through interaction with the environment. This area houses the sales area where products from a wide range of artisans are available, chosen and selected by the team's curatorship. Manual. In this imposing structure, visitors can find clothing, accessories, home products, toys, cosmetics, among other product options. Around the project, areas with multiple functions were distributed, which communicate with each other, called ocas. These are the ocas do fazer (space for workshops), do nurturing (restaurant and store), do cantar (stage and stands), of rest and work (a lounge area with tables and various furniture) and play (a space dedicated to children developed in partnership with Erê lab). Each hut aims to tell a story that connects the visitor emotionally in a playful way, using as references the outdoor world.
Pastel-colored paints and warm-colored details were applied to the walls with irregular surfaces. The idea is that the space is always changing and that little by little these walls are filled with artists' murals. In the restaurant, tiles with prints that refer to “chita,” a typical Brazilian fabric. In the living and working area, there are two large sculptures that resemble trees with electrical wires wrapped in fabric and hanging lamps. In the workshop areas, there are two large tables divided by a washing area made of aluminum basins, where professionals teach manual techniques. Behind this area there is a large hand-painted panel by artist Juliana Vomero. Collective Space Service + Manual House When?
