MAM, MAC, MIS and Pinacoteca are packed with new exhibitions that are part of the city's cultural calendar this September

September is here and with it, the cultural calendar of the city of São Paulo is packed with exhibitions to visit and explore! Among the exhibitions this month, highlights include Murilo Mendes at MAM, Casa Warner at Shopping Eldorado and the last days of Solastalgia at MAC. Below, we have listed 8 exhibitions that you cannot miss this September in the capital of São Paulo!

1. Murilo Mendes - MAM

Murilo Mendes (1901-1975) is one of the most influential figures in Brazilian artistic life. He worked as an art critic, collector, exhibition organizer and poet, and influenced an entire generation of critics and artists. This facet will be highlighted in the new exhibition at MAM São Paulo : on display from September 5 to January 28, 2024 . Curated by Lorenzo Mammì, Maria Betânia Amoroso and Taisa Palhares , the exhibition recalls Murilo Mendes' critical activity through works by more than 50 artists whose stories intertwine, in different ways, with that of the poet.

2. Warner House - Eldorado Shopping Mall


Casa Warner 2023 Warner House is back! Created in 2018, this year’s interactive event pays tribute to the 100th anniversary of Warner Bros. studios through a brand-new exhibition. The exhibition, which runs until October 29 at Shopping Eldorado, features a themed space measuring over 1,500 m² , with activities and interactive installations that will take visitors on a journey through the studio's 100-year history alongside their favorite characters and franchises!

3. The Speed of Grace - Simões de Assis Gallery

To mark the opening of its new home in Jardim Paulista, Galeria Simões de Assis will open the exhibition The Speed of Grace on September 2, a group show by Ghanaian-American curator and cultural critic Larry Ossei-Mensah. The exhibition celebrates the audacity of participating artists who fearlessly use their artistic practices as platforms to challenge existing power structures, question social norms , and empower Black and Brown communities.

4. “Solastalgia” - MAC USP


With curatorial support from Fernanda Pitta , the concept of solastalgia – mental and/or existential stress caused by abrupt environmental changes, not only due to natural consequences, but also due to harmful extractivism models – guides and titles the exhibition that highlights, in the format of video installations , the corrosion of landscapes and mountains caused by mining activities in the Iron Quadrangle, in Minas Gerais.

5. Oscar Niemeyer: Lines and Lights - Bourbon Shopping


Exposição imersiva de Oscar Niemeyer chega a São Paulo em setembro This time, it's time to explore the works of one of the greatest names in world architecture : Oscar Niemeyer, in an immersive exhibition that's never been seen before at Bourbon Shopping ! The show delves into the sensations caused by the shapes, lines, lights and colors of the architect's work, with technological resources, neon drawings and sculptures, and light painting techniques.

6. BB King: A Better World Somewhere - MIS


B.B. King: um mundo melhor em algum lugar - MIS Until October 5, several items from the life and work of BB King will be available for public viewing in an unprecedented exhibition at MIS dedicated to the King of Blues . The exhibition “ BB King: A Better World Somewhere ” borrows part of the name of the 1981 album to address themes of segregation and inclusion, providing a sensory experience . The first exhibition entirely dedicated to the artist in Brazil, the project features historical items from BB King's life. Highlights include images from the BB King Museum collection from various phases of the artist's career , from a young Riley Ben King , at age 23, with Michael Ocs' Gibson L48 guitar, to his portrait displaying the award for Best Traditional Blues Album at the 42nd Grammy Awards in 2000 .

7. Van Gogh Live 8k - Shopping Lar Center


Van Gogh Live 8k - Shopping Lar Center Starting September 15, Van Gogh returns to São Paulo in a new immersive exhibition with unprecedented technology at Shopping Lar Center . With a highly successful first season at the “Beyond Van Gogh” exhibition, which attracted more than 380,000 visitors , the new Van Gogh Live 8k exhibition arrives in São Paulo after debuting in Rio de Janeiro and visiting Goiânia, Fortaleza and Recife, bringing together an audience of more than 1 million people .

8. "Marta Minujín: Live" - Pinacoteca


“Marta Minujín: Ao vivo” 'Escultura de los deseos' [Sculpture of desires] (2022) / The exhibition “ Marta Minujín: Live ” is the first panoramic exhibition in Brazil of one of the most important Latin American artists of her generation. On display at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo , the exhibition brings together more than 100 works by the Argentine Marta Minujín , who moves between different languages, scales, artistic and social circles.
