Immersive exhibition celebrating Picasso's works arrives in São Paulo

Imagine being able to see details of the famous Guernica painting up close and explore the most famous work of Pablo Picasso , the genius of Cubism, from different angles? Imagine being able to follow the evolution, phase by phase, of the greatest visual artist of the 20th century? Imagine being able to enter the mind of the pioneer of modern art? Well then, get to know the new unique immersive exhibition that has just arrived in Brazil: Imagine Picasso . The show will be on display in São Paulo, from March 9th to June 18th , at MorumbiShopping , after having passed through Lyon (France), Quebec and Vancouver (Canada), Atlanta and San Francisco (USA) and Madrid (Spain), with public success wherever it went.

Created by Annabelle Mauger and Julien Baron, in collaboration with art historian Androula Michaël and architect Rudy Ricciotti – winner of the Grand Prix National d'Architecture, France –, the exhibition marks the 50th anniversary of the death of the Spanish artist.

A pioneer in the projection of his own works, Pablo Picasso authorized the audiovisual projection of his paintings at Les Halles Baltard in France in 1971. As his biographer Pierre Cabanne put it in Le siècle de Picasso (1979): “A remarkable exhibition , in which Picasso's works were exhibited one after the other on 10 semi-circular screens, for a captive audience. The children were enchanted and showed their delight in this wild and bizarre kaleidoscope.”

Through Image Totale© – an original and pioneering concept behind immersive exhibitions, created in 1977 by French journalist and photographer Albert Plécy –, the works are digitized and projected onto multi-surfaces , whose arrangement resembles the folds and shapes of origami that can reach up to 8 meters in height, in the scenographic project designed by award-winning architect Ricciotti. The projections form a whole that sculpts the work while freeing it in terms of movement and direction . Details emerge free from traditional constraints and the overall effect offers a new perspective on Picasso's work.
