One of the most renowned names in Brazilian photography, Sebastião Salgado has always been very concerned with environmental causes, especially the Amazon. The result of seven years of work (2013 to 2019) studying and photographing the different faces of the forest, the exhibition " "Amazônia" finally arrives in São Paulo. Curated by Lélia Wanick Salgado, the exhibition features a total of 205 photographs never before seen in Brazil. The chosen location was Sesc Pompéia, which is free to visit from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 am to 9 pm, and on Sundays and holidays from 10am to 6pm and will be on display until July 10th. The exhibition is a true tribute to Brazil, and stands out for showing natural beauty in a rare way, never seen before . To carry out this new project, Sebastião Salgado spent long periods with twelve isolated indigenous communities, sailing along the Amazon River and its tributaries in addition to flying over the dense tropical forest with its more arid mountainous borders.

One of the highlights of the exhibition is the presence of " aerial rivers ", responsible for ensuring the humidity of agricultural areas in several regions, including outside Brazil, from the Center-West and South of the country to Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina. This is an important message that Sebastião Salgado leaves, about the importance of the Amazon for the fulfillment of activities and its extraordinary role in the generation of water on the planet.

In addition to being a photographer, Sebastião Salgado created the Instituto Terra together with Lélia Salgado, his wife, a project that aims to recover the Atlantic Forest and restore nature after so many impacts resulting from environmental degradation.
