One of the most important visual artists in the country, Athos Bulcão became known for his tile art, which gave a unique visual identity to the city of Brasília. As a sculptor and mosaicist, Bulcão created works applied to modern architecture, as can be seen in his works at the National Congress, at the International Airport, at the Itamaraty Palace, among others. This month, the artist would have turned 102 and to celebrate the date, different tributes were prepared to remember his work.
The Federal District Tourism Department, in partnership with the Athos Bulcão Foundation, launched a series of events to celebrate the artist's legacy. The first of these is the "July in Four Athos" project, on Setur's Instagram and YouTube, which will feature four weeks of tributes, including live broadcasts with scholars and personalities who lived with the artist; and virtual and guided visits to the places in the city where Athos' works make up the landscape, an action that will be part of the Live Tour Brasília web series. Another project is "Pedalando com Athos", which will present mini urban routes for residents of Brasília to discover the works of the genius, on foot or by bicycle, without groups or crowds. In addition, photographer Edgard Cesar developed a project that brings together records from different parts of Brasília where Athos's works are integrated into the daily lives of residents. Entitled "Athos Bulcão, 100 years, 100 days, 100 photos", the tribute and photographs can be found under the hashtag #athosbulcao100anos100dias100fotos on Instagram.[newsletter]
