The gates of Coachella have finally reopened for the first time since 2019, revealing a series of large-scale installations by designers, architects and artists of diverse nationalities , covering a range of pressing topics and global themes around environmental sustainability - from reuse to multicultural dialogue. Designed by Architensions, The Playground blends an Italian piazza with the colorful vibe of Southern California. Organized in a modular grid structure, the project takes shape as a grouping of four towers , ranging from 12 to 20 meters in height and linked by suspension bridges. For many people, a chair is just a chair, but for Argentine architect Martin Huberman, a specific type of chair is a vital part of his country's artistic contribution to the world, and he wants people to have an up-close encounter with his creation. at Coachella. (Jennifer Cappuccio Maher/CASACOR)
Using hundreds of replicas of the ubiquitous butterfly chair , Huberman and his architecture firm Studio Normal have created a five-story cocoon from the chairs' frames that will provide shade during the day and butterfly-inspired light at night. (Jennifer Cappuccio Maher/CASACOR)

Each dog is in a different position : one is standing, one is sitting, and one is stretching, or maybe doing yoga or inviting someone to play! Buoyed, by Kiki Van Eijk

Buoyed, by Dutch designer Kiki Van Eijk, features oversized blue, green and off-white buoys , each topped with a different sculptural element , including a butterfly, a windmill and palm leaves. “They’re joyful, but almost in a conceptual way , like anchors to hold onto, because at this point in the last few years everything has been so chaotic that I think a lot of people feel like they need anchors ,” the designer said. The buoys are made of concrete, stucco and steel , are about four stories tall and are meant to convey optimism about the future, the artist said. The 50-foot pavilion, made from 24,000 feet of PVC pipe , combines his mediums with microscopic video paintings through digital microscopes and original compositions mixed with experimental music and sculptures made from sea salt and barnacles from the Salton Sea. She is a guardian of immigrants around the world, and stands 30 feet tall at Coachella 2022 wearing a horned mask and holding her baby in a shawl that is draped over her as she surveys the festival.
