Visitors to CASACOR Rio last year were enchanted by the scenic entrance created with mirrors by architects Celso Rayol and Fernando Costa , from Cité Arquitetura , in the Entre-Salas space, which opened the route through the Instituto Brando Barbosa. The work was so striking that it ended up generating an invitation for the duo to create the installation “ Meandros: Mar de Espelhos ”, the newest attraction at AquaRio , Rio’s marine aquarium, located in the city’s port area.

Celso Rayol e Fernando Costa - Entre-salas.

With over 1,300m² of mirrors in an area of 670m², the installation's main source of inspiration is the natural beauty of Rio : the late afternoon reflected in the tides, the glistening waters running down the slopes, the peaks cutting through the mist on winter mornings.

There are 768 pieces of mirrors composing scenes, generating optical illusions and sensations of movement and depth spread across nine rooms that culminate in a large labyrinth. The guiding thread is water. A journey of discovery that refers to natural phenomena and borrows the humor of Rio de Janeiro to name some of the spaces: Afluentes, Escarpas, Clareira, Iara, Meandros, Bruma, Ressaca, Marola and Cais.
Each space has its own unique soundtrack and lighting , which helps to bring different sensations to visitors. All of them are duly recorded, since cell phones are allowed and this immersive exhibition is highly Instagrammable . It is no wonder that it has been captivating the public who leave there impacted by the experience.

The result of a partnership between Cebrace , Grupo Cataratas and Instituto do Vidro , the installation is expected to remain at AquaRio for at least five years . Visits can be made from Monday to Friday, from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm; and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm.

Architects participate in the next CASACOR Rio

And there will be more Celso Rayol and Fernando Costa at CASACOR Rio! The duo is confirmed for the next edition, which will take place between August 15 and October 15 , at the Instituto Brando Barbosa. And isn't there more mirrors coming? No spoilers for now, since the Rio exhibition is in full swing. But the architects promise to enhance the house's beautiful gardens in the Audi environment, which will be integrated with the brand's global launches.
