In addition to the traditional Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion, in Ibirapuera Park, the São Paulo International Art Biennial takes place in several institutions spread throughout the city of São Paulo. "The starting point of the curatorial project of the 34th São Paulo Biennial was the desire to unfold the exhibition, activate each moment of its construction and sharpen the vitality of an exhibition of this scale. Seeking to dialogue with audiences, so broad and so distinct, who have been visiting the Biennial for decades, we proposed expanding this edition in space and time", says Jacopo Crivelli , general curator of this edition.

With the title It's dark but I sing – an excerpt from the poem "Madrugada Camponesa" by Thiago de Mello, published in 1965 –, the art exhibition reinforces its commitment to the present moment. "Through this verse, we recognize the urgency of the problems that challenge life in today's world, while claiming the need for art as a field of resistance, rupture and transformation ," reveals the curatorial team formed by the Italian Jacopo Crivelli , the deputy curator. Paulo Miyada and also together with the curators Carla Zaccagnini , Francesco Stocchi and Ruth Estévez .

Since 1951, the São Paulo Biennial, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary, has always been connected to the capital. Throughout its history, while the exhibition established its place in the national and international cultural scene, the Biennial Foundation consolidated its strong commitment to the promotion of artistic production , its search for dialogue with the numerous agents that make up the arts system and its historical mission of disseminating art to a Brazilian and global audience .

"Some works will be clearer, others more opaque; some messages will sound like screams, others will come as echoes. We don't need to understand everything, nor do we need to understand each other; it's about speaking our language knowing that there are things that other languages name and we we don't know how to express it" complement the curatorial team via website.
