From young talents to established names,
art is everywhere in the 44 spaces of CASACOR Rio 2023. And, this week, when the
13th edition of ArtRio takes place in the city, there is nothing better than visiting the Rio exhibition with a
special look at the artists chosen by our cast of architects, interior designers and landscapers to compose their spaces.
"
CASACOR displays art in a setting, allowing the public to see the potential of that work. The artist's work is presented in a very well thought-out way, planned for that environment. So much so that artists love seeing their pieces exhibited at CASACOR Rio", says
Patricia Quentel , managing partner of the exhibition.

There are professionals who select the works themselves or in partnership with galleries. But there are also those who prefer to count on the help of art curators.
Heloísa Amaral Peixoto , known as Lolô, is a pioneer in this regard. She has partnered with architects since her first Rio de Janeiro exhibition in 1991. This year, her special vision can be seen in three spaces: Sala dos Encontros, by
Patricia Marinho and Manuèle Colas ; Pausa Pátio, by
Ana Veras ; and the Na.Morada bungalow, by
Adriana Esteves . The first two spaces feature works in marble and stone by
Marina Ribas , pieces that have a direct dialogue with the architecture of the house. In the bungalow, which has a more beachy atmosphere, the choice was for an oil painting by
John Nicholson and a delicate drawing by Oscar Niemeyer.

"Art helps to bring even more content to
CASACOR 's spaces, which also end up functioning as a showcase for contemporary production. But, personally, I like to mix works from different periods, promote this dialogue between time, rescue older pieces, sometimes even from the collection, because that's what also happens in people's homes," says Lolô.

Another veteran of the exhibition is
Vanda Klabin . Every year, the curator works together with architect
Gisele Taranto . In this edition, the duo chose to use only imaginary landscapes in the Presidential Suite. The works are by artists
Vik Muniz, Gabriela Ezcurra, and Gabriela Machado, who bring the nature that is so present on the outside of the house to the interior of the space in a not-so-obvious way.
"We sought to invert the logic of the main protagonist of the
Brando Barbosa Residence – the
Atlantic Forest – using imaginary landscapes or still lifes, which function as true visual counterpoints that contradict or complement each other, now seen through another lens: the chromatic and pictorial capture of nature", explains Vanda.

Among the curators, there is also a newcomer to CASACOR Rio.
Lurdinha Piquet worked side by side with
João Panaggio to define the works that would help tell the story of her
Deca Pavilion , a space inspired by Roman baths that has water as its central element.

The result is evident when you enter the space. Here, works by names such as
Laura Vinci, Héctor Zamora and Artur Lescher are given the prominence of a gallery , but they are all very well integrated into the architecture of the pavilion.
Erick Figueira de Mello - Jardim de inverno. Projeto da CASACOR Rio de Janeiro 2023. (André Nazareth/CASACOR)
Another artist who made her debut this year was
Christiane Laclau , who curated the art for the Winter Garden, by
Erick Figueira de Mello . There, sculptures by
Raul Mourão, Maria Carmem Perlingeiro, Otávio Schipper and Gustavo Prado were selected, as well as a painting by
Ricardo Alcaide. "As the environment has many ethnic influences from North and Sub-Saharan Africa, we wanted to break with
geometric works , for the most part, that dialogue with
concretism and
neo-concretism ," says Laclau.
CASACOR Rio 2023 takes place once again at
Residência Brando Barbosa , which, in this edition, was transformed into
a boutique hotel with 44 rooms decorated by some of the most renowned professionals in architecture, interior design and landscaping. The exhibition can be visited until October 15, from Tuesday to Saturday, from 12 pm to 9 pm, and Sundays, from 10 am to 8 pm. Tickets on sale at the venue or on the website
