This week, Amilcar de Castro's sculptures have been given a space in the gardens of the Domaine National du Palais-Royal in Paris . Galeria Marilia Razuk and Galeria Almeida & Dale have teamed up to present sculptures by the artist from Minas Gerais as part of the Public Program of Art Basel Paris 2024. The fair takes place from October 18 to 20, but the works from the 'Corte e dobra' series will be on display until the 26th. Despite their apparent simplicity, Amilcar de Castro's works reveal a complex interaction with light, shadow and the environment . The artist worked with the strength and malleability of iron and also explored the reflective and textural properties of stainless steel and copper . The cuts and folds in his sculptures are not only construction methods, but also artistic gestures that give rhythm and movement to the static pieces. Amilcar de Castro's aesthetic reveals a constant search for the essence of forms and the organic interaction between material and space . His creative process is based on the principle of economy of means, privileging structural simplicity and clarity in composition. Castro's sculptures explore the tension between weight and lightness, fullness and emptiness, the permanent and the ephemeral.
