An event of global relevance opens the already busy month of December:
Art Basel – the most famous brand in the art market events sector – opens its
21st edition on the 6th, in Miami .
The fair plays a crucial role in the
contemporary art market , fostering cultural dialogue on a global scale. This year, the event will be slightly smaller than last year’s edition, which featured 283 galleries, making it the
largest Miami Beach fair that Art Basel has ever held. While it may be smaller in volume, the exhibition promises to invest in quality.
The idea is to offer visitors a unique experience that begins with the selection of
277 exhibitors from around the world divided into seven main sectors:
Galleries, Meridians, Nova, Positions, Research, Cabinet and Conversations. (Art Basel Miami/Divulgação/CASACOR)
The
Galleries section features modern and contemporary art exhibitions,
Meridians showcases larger projects and sculptures,
Nova hosts a showcase of solo exhibitions, while the
Positions section showcases new galleries and emerging artists. The
Kabinett section showcases works separate from their commercial stands,
Survey has a selection of historical pieces, and there is also the
Conversations section, a space set up for talks led by notable figures from the art scene.
One of the highlights among Brazilian galleries is the selection of
Gomide&Co , which chose to exhibit a set of works
that move between the universes of the forest, Afro-Brazilian narratives and ancestral knowledge of the land. In the Kabinett sector there is an exhibition by Hélio Melo (1926-2001), an artist born in Acre, whose work is marked by numerous encrypted references to the myths, characters and customs of the Amazon. In dialogue with such production by Hélio Melo, and also coming from the Amazon territory, names such as Chico da Silva (1910-/1922-1985) and Jaider Esbell (1979-2021) stand out. In addition to the art fair,
Miami Art Week includes an extensive program of
exhibitions, installations, parties and events spread throughout the city. It is worth noting that there have been significant changes since last year: the
capital of the state of Florida has welcomed new important residents – including
Jeff Bezos, Shakira and Lionel Messi . In addition, gastronomy is also celebrating an excellent phase: now,
11 restaurants in the city have Michelin stars . With the booming economy, Miami is consolidating itself as a stage for
lifestyle trends that expand even more during
Miami Art Week , especially with its
anchor event, Art Basel Miami. Attracting renowned artists, galleries and art enthusiasts,
Art Basel Miami opened in 2002 and has quickly become one of the most prominent events on the global contemporary art calendar. Since its inception, this Miami-based event produced by Art Basel (a Swiss company founded in 1970 that produces four branded fairs) has showcased a variety of contemporary and modern artworks, including paintings, sculptures, photographs, videos, installations and performances. Another important event that also attracts the arts crowd is
Design Miami . Now in its 19th year, the fair features more than 50 international brands, galleries and new releases from designers from around the world. This year, curator, writer and editor
Anna Carnick has set the theme:
Where We Stand .
