Due to the uncertainties of the pandemic caused by Covid-19, this is the second event of the Art Basel group to be transferred to the online platform. The first experience of the “Online Viewing Rooms” was at the event in Hong Kong, China, in March of this year. “In the 7 days in which its virtual platform was opened, Art Basel Hong Kong had 250 thousand visitors worldwide. In 2019, the three in-person franchises of the fair had a total of 262 thousand visitors”, state the event organizers on the group’s website. According to Art Basel's global director, Marc Spiegler, the possibilities of new digital technologies are endless. On this platform, visitors can save and share their favorite artworks, as well as quickly view all the artworks by a specific artist, regardless of the room or gallery. They can also refine their search with filters, such as average price, geographic region and date. What's more, visitors can browse the exhibition's four thematic sections. Several Brazilian galleries will be present at the digital event: Gentil Carioca, Fortes D'Aloia & Gabriel, Mendes Wood DM, Bergamin & Gomide and Galeria Luisa Strina. A highlight is the room created especially for Art Basel by Galeria Bergamin & Gomide: “An Imaginary Booth”. This space brings together rare works by artists such as Abraham Palatinik, Alexander Calder, Amadeo Luciano Lorenzato, Amélia Toledo, Artur Barrio, Celso Renato, José Leonilson, José Resende, Lygia Clark, Manfredo de Souzanetto, Mira Schendel, Sergio Camargo, Sol LeWitt, among others. Art Basel takes place from June 19th to 26th and from what has been seen so far, the experience has shown how the art scene and consumption can continue from now on. (Divulgação)
