Alê Jordão is eclectic in every sense: from the use of neon to bulletproof glass and guardrails. Everything can be transformed in his hands – everything, even old X-rays from his countless skateboarding falls.
"
The pandemic led me to review many of my works ," he says, having been developing a series of works for over 20 years. "I ended up coming across a tapestry I made in 2000 and several X-rays. The result was to transform the X-rays of my fractures into unusual images that, in a digital reprinting process, resulted in the creation of the art design rugs."
Humor, a constant element in Alê Jordão's projects, is once again present in the five tapestries that make up the pieces of the "
Free Hands " exhibition that arrives in Miami for
Art Basel Miami . From December 1st to 5th, visitors will be able to see new works not only by Alê Jordão but also by other Latin American artists at Pinta Art Miami, a satellite event of the fair.
The five Free Hands tapestries-radiographs are made of nylon with a hand-finished Persian finish in black and white, using the tufted technique. Alê Jordão gave the pieces unusual names – very much in his style – such as Fuck, Heart, Bye, Dislike, Like and Tomara. The pieces are available in three sizes: 140x80cm, 150x100cm and 120cm in diameter.
