Created in 2022 by cultural entrepreneur Filipe Assis, ABERTO is a exhibition platform dedicated to investigating the relationships between architecture, art, and design in Brazil and abroad. Its editions are characterized by the activation of historically relevant buildings — especially modernist residences rarely accessible — that begin to function as spaces for artistic experimentation. In each edition, artists and designers are invited to develop new works in direct response to the architecture, in collaboration with galleries.
In this fifth edition, ABERTO occupies Casa Bola, hand-built between 1974 and 1979. The work synthesizes Eduardo Longo's radical research on spherical housing and affirms an experimental stance that has remained on the margins of institutional architectural canons. When activated as an exhibition space, the house preserves its unique and nearly countercultural character, revealing to the public one of the most emblematic — and still little-known — works of Brazilian architecture. This edition presents two unprecedented milestones: the expansion of the exhibition project, which continues and expands the occupation of modernist houses initiated in previous editions, and the celebration of the work of an architect during his lifetime.

The collaboration with Eduardo Longo and the opening of Casa Bola to the public reaffirms our commitment to the valorization of Brazilian architecture, art, and cultural heritage, in dialogue with the city," says Filipe Assis, founder of the platform.

Distributed across the approximately 1,000 m² of the building — which includes three floors, a terrace, and the iconic spherical structure — approximately 60 works of art and design will be gathered, signed by more than 50 Brazilian and international artists. The section dedicated to architecture is overseen by Fernando Serapião, the invited curator for this edition.

Most of them were conceived specifically for the occasion, in direct dialogue with the experimental character of Casa Bola, understood as a habitable sculpture. The exhibition also includes a section dedicated to Eduardo Longo's trajectory, with projects, drawings, works, photos, and models spanning decades of his production, curated by Fernando Serapião.
In parallel, ABERTO debuts ABERTO Rua, a unique initiative that brings the platform from the private space into the urban fabric, expanding its action and repositioning the city as an exhibition field. By occupying Faria Lima Avenue with more than 15 commissioned works, the project activates the surroundings, tensions daily flows, and proposes new relationships of territoriality between art, the public, and urban space. "In public space, art dispenses with any invitation and happens alongside chance, movement, and urban diversity," says Filipe Assis.
