Kengo Kuma's work and vision on display at JAPAN HOUSE

Opened in May this year, JAPAN HOUSE brings Japanese culture and its contemporaneity to the heart of São Paulo, on Avenida Paulista, through traveling exhibitions on the two floors of the building, combining art, technology and business through immersive experiences. . The architect responsible for the renovation of the site that houses the Japanese cultural center and its imposing façade is Kengo Kuma, widely recognized for his characteristic work that combines innovative designs and traditional Japanese practice. Due to its importance, JAPAN HOUSE displays an exhibition on the first floor ground floor about Kuma's work and its essence. In Japan, building is directly related to Ma - a Japanese word that can mean interval, space, time or distance between two structural parts. And it is this meaning that the architect bases his projects on. Those who follow Kengo Kuma's work identify the use of Japanese construction tradition and artisanal techniques in the creation of contemporary and innovative designs. The professional has a great concern, not only with aesthetics but also with the elements, values and respect for the materials and spaces where they are used. Kuma believes in " importance of not letting architecture impose itself on nature or the environment around it, but rather integrating it without overshadowing it. In Kengo Kuma - Eterno Efêmero , open to the public since July 18, it is possible to see countless grandiose projects by the architect around the world, in models that faithfully reproduce the professional's technique. All of this portrayed with bamboo, washi (Japanese paper) and the sukiya technique of wooden construction. His works highlight the use of space, natural light and organic elements. In addition to the works presented, there are three more constructions by the architect. One of them is Fuan , a tea house made from a huge floating balloon, covered in an extremely light fabric. This project is the perfect expression of 'non-construction', of temporary architecture, which can be taken wherever you want.
