In 2023,
ArtRio will expand its space, offering more content for all visitors, a diverse program and around 75 galleries and art institutions. The event will take place from
September 13 to 17 , at Marina da Glória, where it will occupy a space 25% larger compared to the previous year. In addition to the excellence in art content and the discussion of current and relevant topics in the sector, this year, ArtRio reinforces its commitment to raising awareness and activities focused on
sustainability , from the organization of the event and with a series of actions aimed at reducing impact.
Since its 1st edition, in 2011,
ArtRio's proposal has always been to be a large platform , with an annual calendar, bringing
knowledge and contact with art to different audiences , both encouraging visits to museums, galleries and institutions and also carrying out actions in different spaces.
“
ArtRio is committed to always seeking actions and attitudes that focus on a fairer and more inclusive world and society, and it works in accordance with sustainability practices to reduce its impact on the environment. Art is our platform for language, and art has always been an important channel for transforming and spreading new ideas,” says
Brenda Valansi, president of ArtRio. For the week of the fair, the organization has confirmed the presence
of more than 100 collectors and curators invited from outside Rio de Janeiro, including visitors from countries such as
the United States, Panama, Switzerland, Paraguay, Spain, Peru, Denmark, France, Turkey, Belgium and Italy . The program also includes visits to museums and institutions, galleries, studios and private collections. This action is part of the
Collectors Program project, supported by PRIO. The space will be divided into
TERRA , in the central pavilion of Marina da Glória, and the
MAR pavilion, a space that had its area expanded on the esplanade with a project developed by architect Pedro Évora. A
Sculpture Garden was also created, with larger-scale works.
The ArtRio 2023 Curatorial Committee, responsible for selecting the participating galleries, is made up of gallery owners
Alexandre Roesler (Galeria Nara Roesler), Antonia Bergamin (director of Galeria Galatea), Filipe Masini and Eduardo Masini (Galeria Athena), Gustavo Rebello (Gustavo Rebello Arte), and Juliana Cintra (Silvia Cintra + Box 4). Discover the programs and

OVERVIEW : Galleries with established operations in the modern and contemporary art market participate.
VISTA: Program dedicated to young galleries, up to 10 years old, featuring exhibition projects developed exclusively for the fair.
SOLO: Ademar Britto will be, for the second consecutive year, curator of the SOLO program, with the participation of 16 galleries presenting original exhibition projects dedicated to a single artist. In 2023, one of the highlights is the return of foreign galleries, including representatives from Argentina and Colombia, selected by the curator. This diversity offers the public the opportunity to explore and learn more about the recent production of renowned artists, both in the national and international art scene, from diverse origins, career moments and artistic practices.
EXPANSION: Cultural, social and educational inclusion has been an important pillar of ArtRio since its creation. The fair dedicates a special space to the Expansion program, with institutions that use art in different ways to achieve this inclusion. The institutions selected by a committee receive stands where they can present their mission and activities, in addition to the results achieved. They can also sell works with the aim of continuing their work.
MIRA: A program dedicated to video art. In its seventh year, the program is curated for the first time by the Cinemateca do MAM. The exhibition, entitled “Deslocamentos”, features works by visual artists and filmmakers that address the relationships and interactions between the artistic fields of cinema and visual arts.
Sculpture Garden A large open-air art gallery, presented by Shopping Leblon, featuring large-scale works in different media by modern and contemporary artists. The works will interact with the scenery of Guanabara Bay and also with visitors, encouraging new ways of seeing and interacting with art. Artists and galleries present: Ascânio MMM (Silvia Cintra + Box 4), Jeane Terra (Anita Schwartz Art Gallery), Marcelo Cidade (Red Gallery), Zé Carlos Garcia (Portas Vilaseca Gallery), among others.
FOCUS Award For the second consecutive year, the FOCO Award is presented by the Vale Cultural Institute and has the opportunity to select six Brazilian artists to be recognized for their work. The winners will be presented during the fair and all will receive artistic residencies in the country as a prize and will have their work exhibited at ArtRio 2023. Aimed at Brazilian visual artists with up to 15 years of experience, the award is an important commitment by ArtRio to stimulate and give visibility to Brazilian artistic production, encouraging accessibility and equity from the moment of registration. This year, the event's management received a record number of entries since its creation. There were 606 projects, coming from 25 Brazilian states. Women dominated the scene with 60.9% of the total entries.
ArtRio Conversations Held during ArtRio on the Palco Instituto Cultural Vale, in the MAR pavilion.
