Hidden within a forest near Salamajärvi National Park in Finland and designed by Studio Puisto , the cabin design is an interpretation of an ancient Niliaitta – a type of elevated wooden hut traditionally used by the indigenous Sámi to store food with security. (Marc Goodwin, Archmospheres/CASACOR)
Studio Puisto's aim is to pay homage to the history of Sámi culture in the region while also creating a space that gives visitors a sense of distance from the outside world. "The idea is that, set back in the air, we immediately feel separated of our daily concerns that happen on the ground," the office explained in an interview with Dezeen . The cabin is the first of 25 Niliaitta suites to be built within the forest for the Kivijärvi Resort . Other rooms with a different design will also be built nearby, some will be positioned on the ground, while others will float on a nearby lake. (Marc Goodwin, Archmospheres/CASACOR)
In addition to helping create a sense of seclusion, raising the cabin on a single column also helped reduce its impact on the environment . Its position and access point were chosen to minimize the number of trees removed during its construction. "Even Since the foundation of the pillar is solid, we were able to restore the nature around it to its original state", explains Mikko Jakonen.
Black painted wood was used to clad the entire cabin to help it blend in with its surroundings, with the panels placed vertically to mirror the surrounding tree trunks . The long, linear staircase adjacent to the cabin was designed as a continuation of the small narrow path that winds through the forest floor to the cabin. 
"You approach the cabin after walking through a narrow, deep forest path that leads you to the first step of the ladder," Jakonen says. "This creates a unique moment where the wilderness slowly transitions into a safe place, offering a totally different perspective." (Marc Goodwin, Archmospheres/CASACOR)
Despite its remote location, Studio Puisto's goal for Niliaitta was to incorporate the same amenities that might be found in a modern hotel room . Thus, the cabin is fully connected to the local sewage, water and electricity networks; as well as incorporating a spacious shower and a compact kitchen. (Marc Goodwin, Archmospheres/CASACOR)
Almost every surface is clad in light wood paneling , intended to keep the focus on the unobstructed views of nature through the floor-to-ceiling window. “The landscape that opens out from this window intentionally dominates the rest, as the interior is purposefully made to only serve as a neutral, blank canvas in relation to the nature outside,” concluded the studio.
