Sou Fujimoto and
Donghua Chen Studio are leading the ongoing design of the
Shenzhen Reform and Opening Exhibition Center in China. The 90,000-square-meter building was the winner of an international competition for an
exhibition complex in the Shenzhen district. Futian, in Shenzhen.
Externally, the exhibition center will have a
layered, transparent facade . According to the offices, the aim was
to establish a relationship between the building and its surroundings .
The project will also represent the
opening of Shenzhen to the international market . "The Shenzhen Reform and Opening Exhibition Hall will give rise to a world-class, China-leading and
large-scale modernized exhibition complex – with the characteristics of Shenzhen." , the studios explained.
Once completed, the exhibition center will be part of
Shenzhen's Ten New Era Cultural Facilities – a plan that involves the construction of 10 cultural buildings across the city. Other venues include a science museum by
Zaha Hadid Architects , an opera house by
Jean Nouvel and a cultural center of
MAD and
ECADI .
