Sesc in Fortaleza uses modular steel construction system
Flexibility in the use of spaces has been an increasingly valued feature in the construction of modern buildings, especially school buildings , which need their environments to serve several purposes. This was the thought of the duo Luiz Cattony and Bruno Braga , from the Rede Arquitetos office, in the process of creating the Escola Educar II Sesc , in Fortaleza, which has an area of 14,000 m² . The professionals explain that the work was planned as a modular system , which increases or decreases from the initial module and according to the needs of the program or the terrain. This condition made the steel construction system essential to achieve the desired result, and was also fundamental to enable the implementation of the school on the terrain , with its pre-existing features and within the planned schedule.
Steel is used in the structure of the building: in pillars, beams and slabs in steel deck , in addition to the stairs and ramps in metal structure. On the roof, thermoacoustic metal tile was used, whose flat underside provided a uniform finish for the sections where there is no lining. The method also enabled excellent optimization of all construction processes, ensuring faster construction and a considerable reduction in waste on the construction site.
