It was during a morning run that a publicist came across this abandoned
house , in
São Conrado (neighborhood in the south of Rio de Janeiro), and didn't hesitate to tell her husband about the uncut gem she discovered. He was also quickly enchanted by the modernist architecture of the house, which measures
900 m² .
As soon as the deal was closed, before moving to the new address with their three children, they commissioned architects
Jéssica Sarriá and Murad Mohamad , from the Rio de Janeiro office Murad + Sarriá Arquitetura (from the
CASACOR Rio de Janeiro cast) and architect
Renata Zappellini , a complete renovation project for the property, built over 60 years ago.
The renovation's starting point was
to respect the original architecture as much as possible , keeping many of the characteristic elements of the time untouched, with emphasis on the
undulating roof present at one end of the house, which the clients insisted on maintaining.
The interior design features
predominantly modern and contemporary furniture , with emphasis on the Up armchair with ottoman (by
Gaetano Pesce ), the Fresta dining table (by
Claudia Moreira Salles ), the pair of Gio armchairs (by
Sergio Rodrigues ), the Rosá coffee table (by
Maria Cândida Machado ), Francisco dining chairs (by
Dado Castello Branco ), among other signature design pieces.
The architects say they began to rethink the house by reorganizing the plan, which has two floors and a basement. In practice, some walls on the two upper floors, previously quite compartmentalized, were eliminated, but the
large glass doors and windows were maintained to emphasize spatial fluidity and break down the limits between interior and exterior. The
kitchen , open to the living room, gained a large, bright, ventilated area with a view of São Conrado beach. “I love the bucolic atmosphere here. I was raised on a farm and I want my daughter to have that connection with nature. Every afternoon we receive a visit from toucans and the silence makes it seem like I'm not even in Rio”, says the resident.
When designing her new residence, the resident also asked for spaces to accommodate not only the
works of art , but mainly the vast
collection of books . “My husband and I are advertisers and we have collected a lifetime of memories, collected on personal and professional trips, as well as gifts that have a lot of emotional value for us”, she says.
