The Nuvem Pavilion, one of the attractions of
CASACOR Minas Gerais 2018 , is among the 12 finalists for the
Tomie Ohtake AkzoNobel Institute Architecture Award . This is one of the main recognitions of contemporary architectural productions in the country. The finalists were chosen from among 391 projects submitted. winners will be announced on October 17th. The structure of this steel cloud was designed by the Minas Gerais firm Arquitetos Associados, and meets criteria of sustainability, inventiveness, integration with the construction site and construction techniques. The professionals adopted a series of innovations, such as the use of long and flat steels produced by Arcelor Mittal brand. Floors, walls and ceilings were produced from sets of welded steel screens, which avoided the generation of waste and production losses.
As the modules are woven together, the environments become bright and airy. This in addition to exploring different relationships with the context, crossed by the view of the city, in connection with the historic mansion, the trees and even an old locomotive next door. “The “Civil construction is one of the most impactful human activities on the environment. The key to reducing this environmental footprint is to extend the life cycle of buildings,” summarizes Alexandre Brasil.
Much more than an ephemeral installation
The result was a multipurpose pavilion, also designed as a place for people to pause and gather. It was initially built in the entrance courtyard of the historic mansion on Rua Sapucaí, in Belo Horizonte, where
CASACOR Minas Gerais 2018 took place. The set could be disassembled at the end of the event, and could be reassembled in whole or in part. All in accordance with the premises of the circular economy, with a focus on reuse. And that is what happened, showing that it is possible to expand the construction possibilities and useful life of structures like this. Since
CASACOR Minas , the pavilion has been reassembled at other events, such as the entrance portal to Minas Trend Preview – the largest fashion industry fair in Minas Gerais – and several ArcelorMittal stands at commercial and institutional fairs.
