Architecture is capable of taking us to different places and times, and the ceiling of that restaurant in Guadalajara, Mexico, is proof of that. The design refers to something more rocky and ancestral, and was inspired by the Casas Grandes, also known as Paquimé - an archaeological site located in Chihuahua, northern Mexico, which contains the architectural ruins of an important pre-Columbian settlement. Monteon Arquitectos Asociados was responsible for developing the Veneno Restaurant project, and its inspiration for the ceiling came as soon as it saw a photograph of Paquimé - which was built from the 11th century onwards, when its inhabitants lived in complex multi-story residences made of clay. of adobe.

Different from the original structure made of clay, the restaurant had polystyrene sheets molded to resemble Casas Grandes, which guarantees more thermal comfort and is also an eco-friendly material. They were then painted with water-based enamel and arranged on the ceiling to form a largely random pattern. In addition to the bold design, some parts were shaped to receive lighting and hide the air ducts. Even looking closely, the impression is that it was molded directly into the ground.

To complete the decor, the tables were made with textured light wood and peach-tone chairs, which give the establishment a more ancient and organic feel. Tiaquepaque clay vases – a classic from the region – were also scattered around to make up the decoration.

Additionally, some panels with a similar design to the ceiling were incorporated into the walls of the restaurant's corridors.
