After three years of seeking approval from the UK Government, the Holocaust Memorial will finally begin construction. The delay was to ensure that green areas would be preserved , which was a major concern for public bodies. After opening an inquiry to carefully investigate the project, it was approved and construction is scheduled to begin later this year. The site will be built next to the Houses of Parliament, and in addition to the memorial (which features the work of architect Sir David Adjaye ), a Learning Centre designed by Adjaye Associates, Ron Arad Architects and Gustafson Porter + Bowman will also be built.

In 2017, architects Adjaye Associates , Ron Arad Architects and landscape architects Gustafson Porter + Bowman won a competition that allowed them to take on the design of the Holocaust Memorial , a work whose purpose is to honor Jewish men, women and children, as well as all other victims of Nazi persecution . After several changes to the designs to preserve the existing green areas on site, a new project by the professionals was approved, bringing solutions that reassure local residents and environmental activist groups .

The new design included some changes to the entrance pavilion to make it lighter and more in harmony with the local vegetation . The roof of the building was altered to provide views across the site – particularly from the playground at the southern end of the site towards the parliament building to the north.

“The proposed changes to the design have been considered to enhance the scheme and improve views of the Victoria Tower gardens and the Palace of Westminster, in particular the southern end of the Tower gardens,” said the team of architects behind the project. Another action taken to ensure maximum care for nature was to move the Learning Center building away from trees, especially at the western and northern ends,
