World's longest suspension bridge opens in Türkiye
The 4.6 km long Çanakkale Bridge 1915 is located south of the Sea of Marmara, connecting the European and Asian coasts of Türkiye.

The 1915 Çanakkale Bridge was completed in Turkey with a span of 4.6 km , making it the longest suspension bridge in the world.Intended to connect Turkey'sEuropean and Asian coasts , the bridge was named after the year of a major Ottoman naval victory against the British and French during World War I.

While the main work on the project was carried out by the COWI consultancy group, the team also included construction companies Daelim, Limak, SK and Yapi Merkezi.

According to COWI, the bridge's position presented many design challenges, including high winds and high seismic activity . It achieves its aerodynamic stability in part through a double box girder.The clearance between the water and the deck is designed to accommodatestackedcontainer ships and cruise ships that need to pass underneath it.
