Love Cabaret: Maurício Arruda's architectural project focuses on diversity
In June of this year, downtown São Paulo gained a new spot to further boost nightlife in the República neighborhood, in front of the Copan building – and it was a big hit right away.

The house has more than 500 m² and is run by the trio Facundo Guerra, Cairê Aoas and Lily Scott . The space is highlighted by the lighting that refers to a diamond that radiates all the colors of the rainbow . For Maurício Arruda, it was essential to create a project that would encourage visitors to feel free to enjoy and fulfill all their desires . "We basically wanted to talk about free bodies , about multiple expressions that speak of love and sex, without necessarily entering the realm of pornography or any type of objectification of the body," says the architect.

From the old Love Story to the new venture

The starting point of the project was the restoration of a disused floor , which previously alluded to the feathers of a peacock. Under Maurício's watchful eye, the peacock returned in several elements of the house, from the colors, freedom and joy that gave life to the color palette . The illuminated acrylic handrail was preserved, as was the mezzanine railing. Both were revamped, while the pole dances on the side of the stage remained and were given a new look . Regardless of where visitors are, they can count on a view of the stage. “The architecture speaks about freedom, pleasure and sex but without falling into stereotypes – like the color red, which was used discreetly and only one bathroom was given this tone. The predominant colors are lilac, aqua green, petrol blue, purple, navy blue and pink,” explains the architect.
