Japanese architecture firm Kengo Kuma has signed its first residential project in Miami Beach, United States. Built for luxury hotel brand Aman , the residential tower will include 23 private condominiums and will be part of a complex that includes the adjacent Versailles building – a 1940s art deco hotel that is being restored by Jean-Michel Gathy.

The 18-story structure will be supported by a series of columns spaced to maximize views of the beach from neighboring buildings and street level. At the base of the building, a central support will be covered by a wooden lattice that unravels at the top, creating an organic branch effect where the first residential floor is located.
The perimeter support columns will also be covered in wood , a choice of material that is repeated in the cladding on the underside of the slabs on each floor.A thin, three-story glass wall will surround the entry column to provide shelter from the ocean and create minimalist lounge areas on the ground floor, outside the column.
